MCAROWINDS TURNS INTO WORLD’S GREATEST OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
Park, Atomz Lab Partnership Brings together Science, Physics and Fun for Local Students
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Science, physics and fun meet at the place where the Carolinas come together thanks to a new educational partnership with Carowinds and Charlotte-based company, Atomz Lab.
The company will provide interactive, thrilling lessons during the park’s Education Days this spring that combine the physics and science of roller coasters with fun experiments for local elementary, middle and high school students. From understanding the concepts of potential and kinetic energy to speed, mass and momentum, students will understand how all this relates to the fun they experience at a theme park.
“We’re excited to provide area schools with experiences that are not only fun, but educational,” says John Taylor, VP of Marketing, Carowinds. “This partnership allows Carowinds and Atomz Lab to work hand in hand to bring together classroom instruction, and the thrill of experiencing world-class rides all in one place.”
Atomz Lab provides Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) based programs that align with North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia Standard Courses of Study as well as National Science Standards. Dawn Ballway, the founder of Atomz Lab, started this program to gets kids excited about science by making it fun. “We provide a perfect setting for teaching physics, because students can learn about forces and motion, and then immediately experience them on Carowinds’ amazing rides.”
Carowinds’ Education Days run April 8, 15, 22, 29 and May 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 27. This program is just one of the many youth programs Carowinds offers. Others include Marketing Day, Engineering Day, Leadership Day, Home School Day and new this year, a “Making of Plants vs. Zombies™” event focusing on how youth’s interest in arts, digital technology and engineering can lead to an amazing career.
