Roller Coaster Reading Club Soars into Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
New program to promote literacy and give kids FREE day at Carowinds
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carowinds associates are heading back to the classroom to help promote literacy skills and shed light on the importance of reading. The park has teamed up with CMS’ Community Partnerships and Family Engagement Office to form “The Roller Coaster Reading Club”. Associates visited Sterling and Steele Creek Elementary Schools last week to read selected books to first through third graders. The sessions will continue through April. Each student that participates will be given a bookmark with a coupon valid for one FREE Junior admission to Carowinds to be used by the end of the 2016 season. In addition, members of the PEANUTS™ gangwill also be on hand to encourage children to read.
Superintendent Ann Clark’s North Star Reading Initiative encourages volunteers to read with students to help boost reading scores, encourage a love of reading and develop communication skills. For more information on how you can volunteer, please visit:https://www.cmsvolunteers.com/.
